MIDDLE EAST READER
This companion to the Middle East Bibliography gathers material not available in book form. As in the Middle East Bibliography, the daily press is the principal source. In particular the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post as well as Italy’s Il Sole 24 Ore. Each, for example, has regular and occasional opinion writers. By recording their views over time, shifts of opinion are apparent as well as reactions to key events.
Many of the above contributors reside in think tanks such as Brookings, the American Enterprise Institute, the Carnegie Foundation and the Hoover Institution. There are multiple entries for these to enable readers to assess their political stances.
Quite a few themes are addressed. Those individuals who are either sources of terrorism or victims of it are listed in the search index, even though they have not generally written for print. Writings about them are also gathered under their names.
There are other themes such as ‘Torture’, ‘The Greater Middle East Initiative’, ‘Anti-Semitism’ and ‘Fallujah’. ‘Why Us?’ is a collection of American musings on finding themselves objects of terrorism.
