French soldier of fortune calling himself "General Perron". Served in India.
AUSTIN, Herbert Henry
1868-1937
British soldier (RE). Railway and boundary surveys in India, Uganda, Western Abyssinia.

AUSTIN, Horatio Thomas
d. 1865
Naval officer (joined 1813). With PARRY 1824-5. Led an expedition in search of FRANKLIN 1850-1 with second ship commanded by OMMANEY (Sir, E.) and tender by OSBORN. Account by Osborn MM #912-915.
AYOLAS, Juan de
At the instance of Pedro de MENDOZA, founder of Buenos Aires, he explored up the Paranà River in the footsteps of Alejo GARCIA. Ayolas was killed, but the survivors of his party subsequently founded Asuncion, the present capital of Paraguay, for which town the Buenos Aires settlement was later abandoned.
