BOCCARO, Gaspar
Portugese explorer. In 1816 travelled up Rovuma R. to L. Nyasa, passed up E. side of lake and reached the coast at Kilwa.
BODEGA Y QUADRA, Juan Francisco de la
Sailed with HECETA and PEREZ in 4 ships to NW coast of America in 1775. His pilot MAURELLE left a journal from which derives an account published in Spain in 1857. Barrington ("Miscellanies" 1781) contains an account said to be a corrupt version of an account by Maurelle. See also BLANCO vol. ii, COX i:25.

1819-1892
German writer and philologist. Travelled in Turkey, Greece and the Crimea.
BODMER, Carl
German artist, travelled on the upper Missouri in 1833 in the party of Prince Maximilian of WIED-NEUWIED whose - "Travels in the Interior of North America" he illustrated. (The party arrived at Fort Union on the same boat as E.T.DENIG). Denig also extended hospitality to CATLIN, AUDUBON and the Swiss artist Rudolph KURZ.
